Although it's not something I've dove into myself, my father actually makes quite a bit buying and reselling items on eBay. It's harder than it seems though - you have to know the market for the type of product you're planning on buying and reselling, and always buy cheap and sell high.
It helps to have a specific niche when buying and selling on eBay as it's easier to learn the market that way, at least that's what I think.
