NEET UG: Pattern and Syllabus

NEET-UG (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) is the Indian entrance exam that is conducted for the students who wish to pursue career in medical line. The courses that can be opted after clearing this examination include MBBS or BDS. NEET-UG is conducted by CBSE and replaced the AIPMT (All India Pre Medical Test) and all the medical examinations that were conducted by colleges or the state. Though, many institutes and colleges have taken an order to conduct private examination for admission in BDS or MBBS courses.

AIIMS (All India Institute of Medical Science) of New Delhi, Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education & Research, and Postgraduate Institute for Medical Education & Research are out from NEET’s purview. NEET was held on 5May, 2013 for the first time and was in controversy for a long time. Supreme Court of India declared this examination unconstitutional in 2013, but the exam was brought back in the year 2016.

NEET Exam Pattern

The NEET examination is conducted offline (pen & paper based). It has one question paper that comprises of around 180 questions. For every correct answer, the candidate is rewarded with 4 marks, while for a wrong answer, 1 mark is deducted from the total. The candidate has a choice to leave the question unanswered as no mark is deducted for it. The question paper is divided into 4 different sections with each section carrying 45 questions each.

The complete examination is of 720 marks and each question is objective type. A total of 3 hours is given to each candidate for solving the question paper. You can take admissions in government and private colleges of the country on the basis of your score.

So, this is the syllabus for NEET examination that will be conducted next year. The students who are willing to be doctors in future can take up studies seriously and start preparing for the examination from now onwards.

Tips to Crack NEET Examination

  • A candidate who is willing to take up NEET examination should be mentally prepared and focused. A strong determination can help the candidate to succeed in the examination.
  • Strengthen the topics at which you are weak, but do not forget to go through the strong topics thoroughly.
  • Time management will help the student to prepare the best. A proper routine of study can bring focus and in way, the student can concentrate more towards the studies.
  • A proper sleep everyday and a good balanced diet should be taken to stay healthy and fit before the examination.
  • Practicing the previous year questions papers and solving the mock tests on regular basis will help you to master your skills to perfection.
  • Make sure that you have revised the things at least twice before leaving for the examination.
  • It is advisable to solve the section in which you are comfortable first. Do not waste time on questions that are lengthy or need agues work. First attempt the questions which are easy and then try the hard ones if the time is left.

NEET is the examination conducted by CBSE and Medical Council of India to take up the students who are interested to make their careers in the medical line. A student can take admissions in reputed medical colleges of the country on the basis of their NEET score.
