Avi still remembers vividly the day, twenty-seven years ago, when his fear of cats started. He was in first grade and had stepped out of the classroom for recess, when he saw a cat clutching a dog by its head, scratching viciously at the dog’s eyes and ears. The cat screeched as the dog yelped and ran around the school yard, trying to shake the cat from its head.
