Before starting any of the following stepping-toward-discomfort (exposure) exercises, practice watching and waiting (review chapter 4). Over the next week and before you practice any stepping- toward-discomfort exercise for fifteen to twenty minutes per day, practice mindfully watching your anxious response. If you’ve forgotten the basics of watching and waiting, reread chapter 4 (“Watching and Waiting”) before practicing.
