Once you are fused with your anxious thoughts, you’re headed for more anxiety and suffering. However, you can learn to unhook from your anxious thoughts and take a time-out from believing what your anxious mind tells you. You can learn to defuse your anxious thoughts in order to step outside the anxiety box. Defusion strategies (Hayes 2005; Hayes, Strosahl, and Wilson 1999) help you detach from your anxious thoughts, thereby allowing you to take them less seriously.
