Take a walk

It doesn’t matter where, but it’s important to take in some fresh air. Remember that you will always be able to think more clearly when your brain receives it’s far share of oxygen. Taking a walk and breathing in some greens will always alleviate any stress or anxiety that you might be experiencing. This in turn will help you overcome your writer’s block that much more quickly.

Imaginary Friend

It might sound silly at first, but think about it for a second. What if there was a person that only you could talk to and share everything with. We’re not talking about significant others or best friends here. An imaginary friend will often be just what a struggling writer needs in order to keep going. You will not only feel at ease knowing that you “shared” your thoughts, but you will also light up that creative bulb that you so desperately need in order to keep writing.

Change Your Methods

Whatever tool or environment that you are using, try changing things up a bit. Writing the same text using the same tools in the same surroundings isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. It can get monotonous at times. This is why you can think about and research some of the different methods available to you. Some of the best sites for writing help out there will give you a few pointers. Keep in mind that finding your perfect style takes time but once you get there, a writer’s block will be the least of your worries.

Write For Yourself

This one takes some getting used to but it’s well worth it. Even though you are writing for a living, you can always try to distance yourself from your readers and just write for yourself. Whatever contract or task you have at hand, try writing it for yourself. Your personal pleasure is the best motivator in the world, so why not give it a shot and write for yourself for a change?

Brainstorm

Take a piece of paper and try doing some quick writing exercises. It doesn’t have to be anything serious or work related. For example, try to think of a simple word and make a mind map of all the words that you can associate with it. These simple exercises will not only take your mind off of real life issues but boost your problem solving and creativity. You’re going to need both in order to overcome an occasional writer’s block.

Reach Out to Colleagues

Work online and earn real money

You know you’re not the only one suffering from writer’s problems, right? There are numerous blogs and forums out there dedicated to connecting writers and overcoming common issues that everyone experiences. You will not only find out valuable tips and tricks about how to overcome problems, but also make a few friends along the way. Writers create networks all the time to help each other out of tough spots, and this is a perfect opportunity to learn something new and learn useful techniques.

Read a Book

Sometimes you just need to relax and unwind by reading a book from your favorite author. Make sure that you read something light and approachable. Reading a history book or a cook-book might not be what you need in order to overcome a writer’s block. Reading about fantasy or sci-fi will raise your creativity and help you think with a clear head. Try putting away an hour or two each day for reading and relaxing.

Play a Video Game

Similar to book reading, video games are known for elevating stress and developing creativity. Not only that, but you will learn a few new things depending on what type of a game you play. Sticking to puzzle games will help you develop critical thinking while turning to adventure games will help you become more creative. Just remember why you are playing a game in the first place so that you don’t get sucked in and waste hours on end.

Exercise

In order to get your brain going again, you might need to become physically active. Getting your blood pumping by jogging, doing push-ups or playing basketball will not only make you feel fresh and excited, but also full of new energy. This is a perfect way to not only overcome a writer’s block but also feel good about your body.

Sleep

Every once in a while, the only thing you might need is a good night’s rest. Many people try doing everyday work by force just because they won’t take a nap. Don’t be stubborn and give yourself some time to rest up and recharge your batteries. Energy and clear thinking doesn’t come from forcing yourself but just the opposite, so take it easy.

While there is no simple answer to overcoming writer’s blocks, some of these techniques and tricks might just be what the doctor ordered. Keep in mind that each writer is unique, so try finding ways to make your work fun and original, even though you are doing the same thing all the time.

Experiencing a block every once in a while is completely normal, so don’t think badly of yourself if you need to take a break for a while. Once you do come back, you will be ready to achieve far greater results than by forcing yourself to write even though you don’t feel like it.

Share It, If You Like It. Leave It, If You Don't Like to Share It.
