Here is the solid advice for incoming college students.
Becoming a college student is already a great achievement for any person because it shows that they’re ready to face the final stage of their education. However, that doesn’t mean that it’ll be easy because it’s going to be even tougher this time around.
Studying in college is pretty difficult because enduring long hours of lectures, academic papers, exams and other educational activities can really put a toll on your mind & body. Not only that, you’ll also develop a lot of negative habits that would affect your performance due to the stress & exhaustion you’ll experience.
Studying is really difficult no matter what level of education you are in and don’t make it more difficult by not doing something about it. As a student, you must be armed with proper knowledge about effective study habits and here are some suggestions that will help you along the way.
Always ask questions
Asking questions are very important especially in college because this will save you a lot of time and effort at anything you’ll do. A lot of students manage to waste time and get themselves stressed since they mostly don’t have a clue about what to do. Put your pride and shyness aside because that would make life difficult for you as a student. Save yourself the trouble by asking your teacher every possible question that will allow you to study without problems.
Get your priorities straight
Not many students are fond of studying after school hours because they’re tired from all the studying they’re doing which is understandable, but it’s no reason to neglect their academic responsibilities at home. Although it’s easier said than done, you should put your studies above everything else because your efforts will be rewarded in due time.
Work on your time management skills
This particular skill is a must have for any student because this would allow you to submit your academic papers on time, organize your schedule and many more. Time management is a very valuable skill to have, but there aren’t a lot of students who has developed this skill because this is really difficult to master. You should read books or ask other students for advice about effective time management so that you’ll be able to use it on your advantage.
Be diverse
Doing extensive research when writing academic papers is always essential because you’ll need to show that you’ve understood the subject by writing a compelling argument about it. Most academic papers nowadays are quite lacking due to the fact that some students are relying on a single source of information.
You need to realize that information could be obtained from various sources and becoming diverse is recommended if you want to come up with a better paper. Reading books, browsing Internet websites and checking out academic papers with similar ideas are some of the things that would help you on your research.
Don’t get distracted
Studying while distracted can be tricky which is a good reason to concentrate even more on your studies. Then again, you won’t be able to get anything done if you’re easily getting distracted which is why you’ll have to study on a place where there are minimal distractions around.
The library or your own room so long as you’ve gotten rid of any possible causes of distractions are great places to start. Always remember that distractions has the power to create a lot of unfinished academic papers and failing grades, so avoid it at all costs.
Get enough sleep
Never forget to sleep because you need to keep yourself in tip-top shape as the last thing that you want to do is to deprive yourself of sleep. Not sleeping enough can make a huge impact not only to your study habits, but to your health as well which is why you should always get a goodnight’s sleep. There may be a few times where you’ll have to pull all-nighters, but try to set a limit on that so that you’ll be able to condition yourself for another rigorous studying in class.
These tips should help you study better, but don’t get too confident because college education won’t go down without a fight. Stay strong, be determined and do everything to succeed because college is going to be a wild ride.

This is SUCH a good article for college students! I think it’s good for anyone entering college too, not just your typical 18–20-year-olds. I wish I would have read an article like this prior to starting school myself, and I wasn’t a person who went immediately after high school. Every major point made really struck a chord and provided, truly, solid advice! Another key point I think that’s important to note is to remember to enjoy the experience and have fun!
